Phil, Do you own a property in this area? If so, have you thought of a) the adverse affect on the value of your property, b) the increased traffic and congestion in the area, and c) potential increased crime?

These are all major considerations to owners, and the second two major concerns to all residents of the area.

There is currently insufficient street parking, and no plans for improved roads, to accept the increased traffic. How is this a good thing? It will be a constant state of gridlock.

May I ask what is wrong with high rise? It saves space and looks impressive. If you don't want high rise then don't live so close to the city! Move to bloody Dubbo or Wagga Wagga if you hate developement. The more high rise the less urban sprawl meaning less de-forestation and we don't need to force farmers to move further inland. The futher inland farmers are the more expensive the transportation costs of bringing produce to the city which means poorer farmers and more expensive food.

It's simply good sense to make better use of the land we have.

I have been living in this area for more than 15 years and I am frustrated by the congestion that has occurred over the years. There is insufficient public parking, parkland, public swimming pools and other local facilities for the existing residents and the proposed plan makes little concession for addition. Yet the plan will add to the current congestion.

Areed - Old Canterbury Road is already overly congested. The intersection of Old Canterbury Road and Cook Street is already extremely dangerous for drivers, pedestrians and residents and it doesn’t cope with the amount of existing traffic let-a-lone increased traffic caused by this development. Lewisham is a quiet residential area and should remain that way. The towers will spoil the location, devalue existing homes and cause more noise pollution. What we want is parkland NOT development.

The reason they put more people near where people live is that infrastucture is already in place and only has to be, in theory upgraded. Also unlucky if you were there first, the developers bought the land fair and square. The Aboriginal people were there first mate, are you going to give your land back to them? I didn't think so...Also haven't you heard we have ridiculously expensive houses and that prices should remain stable so as relative after inflation the cost goes down. This is how urban centres develop, you didn't think that at some stage in the future increased density would appear in the inner suburbs. There is plenty of other options for single dwellings out there. Many other places once has single story dwellings and now have high rise apartments. Man up and take it or move on...

The usual Sydney trying-it-on overdevelopment that developers present to get maximum floorspace & maximun bucks(ie try to shoehorn as big a development in as you can, which will bump up the project's estimated cost so it will be called in under 3A).

I have lived in Lewisham since 2001, and this is the best suburb I have ever lived. I am so against any development happening around here. It is unbelievable what they have in mind. Lewisham has so much character and charm. The last thing we need is a supermarket! I feel very fortunate that I have access to five great shopping locations, Summer hill, Leichhardt, Ashfield, Petersham, and Dulwich Hills shops. They are all a nice walking distance if I so choose, and public transport is good as well. I also use the little grocery shop near Lewisham station to give it support. To imagine shopping malls and apartment towers around here scares the hec out of me.
I also miss the Mungo Scott Flour Mills and the sounds of the freight trains at night. There was something comforting about that. Now, the graffiti pests have started vandelising that now...doesn't take long.

Greetings from Lewisham, SE London, UK. Our local council is hell-bent on mega-development right in the centre of Lewisham. Loampit Vale will have about 9 blocks, including one of 24 storeys, one of 20 storeys and one of 18 storeys. This site is very close to the "Lewisham Gateway" site which promises 6 tall blocks, possibly up to 20 storeys. If all the developments are built, population density will be higher than Mumbai (Bombay). Our new group "Action 4 Lewisham" is gathering support, but we know it will be a long haul and a tough fight to stop our neighbourhood becoming overdeveloped.
All the best.
